What is RoboCup ?
RoboCup is the biggest robotics and artificial intelligence competition in the world.
RoboCup is the biggest robotics and artificial intelligence competition in the world.
Proposed in 1996 by Hiroaki Kitano to stimulate researches, the RoboCup was born with the crazy and very complex challenge that at the 2050 Soccer World Cup, robots would be able to play on the field with humans.
The RoboCup aims to promote interest, practice and knowledge of the related sciences: mechatronics, computer science, electronics, mechanics, internet of things and artificial intelligence.
Organized around competitive leagues representing scientific research fields, the event brings together thousands of researchers around a common ambition: to share knowledge and advance technical and scientific progress.
Recently, the RoboCup has been held in Germany (2016), Japan (2017), Montreal (2018), Sydney (2019) and Bangkok (2022). The 26th edition will take place from July 4 to 10, 2023, in France, at the Parc des Expositions in Bordeaux.
The RoboCup Federation is the organization that brings together leading robotics and artificial intelligence scientists from all around the world, coordinates the RoboCup community, and organizes the event each year with the host city.
Although the RoboCup is a yearly competition, it is organized throughout the year in local, national and international events in many countries around the world, such as the European RoboCup Open, the Asia-Pacific RoboCup Open and the Latin America RoboCup Open. Synergy is also encouraged by the Federation, which supports international exchanges of students and researchers throughout the year.
